Sound Designing - Production (Week 5 adding to 6)

 Sound Design

In film opening, sounds are as important as visuals. Our film opening is about 2 friends hanging out, while one friend is always texting on his phone, then casually runs away, leaving his phone on the garage table. Since this relies on teenage device privacy invasion, I can incorporate natural Foley sounds, and suspenseful sound effects.

Here are some sounds that I may incorporate into my Phone Privacy Film Opening.

  • Ambient sounds - it was filmed outside, and in my garage
  • Notification/buzzing/ typing sound effects.
  • Doors opening and closing
  • Footsteps (Walking/ running on grass and concrete)
  • Cameras in home beeping
  • Doors creeking

We could test these by layering the sounds in editing softwares or downloading them from sound libraries such as pixbay/ the YouTube audio library.

Set Design creation

 Set Design Creation

This is my 3rd production post. We haven't started filming yet so we will look at how we can design the look of floors/ set design creation. Set design creation involves creating stage/floors for plays and films. It is the space where the main characters interact with each other.

For our Hello Neighbor film opening, we will look at the neighbor's house and the different hiding spots there.

House

The house is a casual 2 floor blue house with a good looking yard and a car in front.

There are good hiding spots in the back of the yard, where the main characters can run from the neighbor.

Inside House/ Hiding Spots

  • The Bedroom - The main character can hide from the neighbor under the bed . If he sees you, he can also go under the bed and catch you.
  • In the green and reddish brown cupboard. The main characters can hide there. The neighbor, if he sees, can open it up and still catch us.

Character/ Costume Design

COSTUME DESIGN

In Hello Neighbor, the design of the characters plays a huge part in the story.  The audience should be able to understand, personality, curiosity, and danger by looking at the characters' outfits and behavior. Our film is inspired by this game.

The Neighbor:

The neighbor will mostly look exactly like in the game as the game will be coming to life in our film opening. Orange pants, black gloves, and a blue sweater. He will gasp then chase us really fast, set traps, and throw things at us to slow us down.  I will be playing the role of the neighbor. Ill wear skinny jeans, black hoodie, and gloves. Basically recreate the character

The Protagonist - Teen: My partner will be playing the role of protagonist

  • Looks Athletic
  • Curious
  • Strong
  • He likes playing with his ball on the street
  • He wears shorts with a golden apple on the left
  • he wears a casual blue shirt
  • The older him wears jeans but folded up
  • Watch on wrist
  • Full sleeves

Audio/Foley

Audio/ audio production is the process of mixing recording and editing the audio for a final product. It also involves performance, recording and radio. Capturing material and selecting the best to make sure the sound is in high quality, then blending the recorded elements into 1 track and balancing volumes. And arranging is describing where to play instruments and elements to add shape to the song/recording.

For our film opening, which relies mostly on teenage phone privacy, will mostly incorporate no copyright sounds and Foley. We would record sounds of our phones vibrating, notification sounds, footsteps/running on grass and concrete, and doors opening and closing. We would also incorporate thrilling/suspenseful sound effects.

Character Development

The sequences in the characters' rooms will be where we will build the characters. Each character's room could be depicted as either tidy and well-kept or as disorganized and cluttered. The attitudes of the characters could then be inferred from their rooms. For example, the person with the immaculate room might be the leader or make clear decisions, whereas the person with the messy room might be heartless.

We may leverage their clothing choices in addition to their surroundings and dispositions to reveal more about their personalities. Unfolded clothing scattered over the room, for example, indicates that they are indifferent to their appearance. A tidy workspace would demonstrate their consideration for others' viewpoints. We could Additionally, utilize the lighting to convey the characters' desired perceptions of themselves. A room that is dark or has little light coming in could indicate that they are working on something that is taking too long and that they are unable to maintain their space properly. Giving the characters meaningful names is another option. For example, if we give them a religious name, they might be religious at the beginning of the movie.

Costume - Mise-en-scene

 Costume

Costume is one of the most important factors of  mise-en-scene. It also helps developed a character's personality. Costumes help convey characters by highlighting their inner thoughts and feelings. They can also help in telling a story. They create visual narratives supporting the film's message and environment. Costumes influence how viewers and audience perceive the nature of characters.

Many film costume designers work with the director to create designated outfits that suit the characters and their inner thoughts. They consider the style, theme, and how it would fit into the scene.
